The article considers the concept of “communicative competence” as a fundamental component of readiness for education and self-development of a person. Particular attention is paid to the formation of foreign-language professional communicative competence of students of a technical university in a multilingual condition. To determine the communicative competence, the authors tested “Self-assessment of the communicative competence”, which allows for systematic monitoring of the level of communicative competence.
