Teaching of speech compression and simultaneous translation peculiarities (by the example of professional-oriented translation discipline)

The relevance of the article subject is determined by increasing need in specialists having simultaneous translation skills. Having considered the specifics of teaching speech compression as a formation stage of simultaneous translation skills, the authors determined a number of speech compression peculiarities teaching used in the educational process. The purpose of this article is to consider the techniques of speech compression used in teaching simultaneous translation. To achieve the goal, the following tasks were set: 1) to define the concept of “speech compression”; 2) to study the ways of speech compression; 3) to analyze the process of simultaneous interpretation by means of some of them. The authors focus on the analysis and specifics of working with compression techniques. The material used for teaching the methods of speech compression served as a means of audio material¸ video fragments, text information selection from the Internet sources and some textbooks.
