Predicative separation of prepositionalcase forms

Toporkov P. Y.  (PhD, Docent, Tsiolkovsky Kaluga State University)

The article dwells on the issues of semantic and grammatical separation of case and prepositional-case forms in the context of the formation of a predicative as a special lexical and grammatical class of words. The author considers the problems of qualitative increment in the semantics of a case or prepositional-case word form in relation to the original form of a nominative case, including semantic-grammatical transformation (the so-called verb-derived predicatives), the implementation of connotative meanings in the process of semantic-grammatical isolation of the prepositional-case forms, as well as features of the considered lexical and grammatical processes in the framework of the comparative analysis of Slavic languages. The paper contains a classification of models for the formation of phraseological prepositional-case meanings based on lexical-semantic and grammatical factors. The author discusses the role of connotative meanings and metaphors in phraseologization of word forms. The paper also discusses the relations of the predicative semantics of prepositional-case forms with the grammatical semantics of a verb, category of state, as well as the problem of perfective predicative semantics of different parts of speech.

Keywords:predicative, case, prepositional-case form, phraseologization, connotation, statal semantics, appraisal.
