Correspondence and orders of Marshal Louis Davout during the occupation of Moscow in 1812

The article is devoted to one of the most controversial moments of the Napoleonic wars, the occupation of Moscow by the French. The analysis of the events of the Patriotic War of 1812 is presented on the example of memoir literature. The author examines in detail the role of the famous French military leader L. Davout in the occupation of Moscow by Napoleon's army. It is said about the great respect of the marshal among his subordinates. About the methods used by the marshal during military events. It speaks of Davout's administrative talent, who achieved a high level of combat readiness of the military units entrusted to him as part of the corps. Its role in the fight against looting and other illegal actions against the civilian population of Moscow is noted.
