Process of rethinking the French literary tradition at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries

The article aims to present the general trends of the last decades of the XIX – early XX centuries literary process. With the collapse of the naturalistic school and the origin of new trends in the literature, there were fears for its further fate. The main task of cognition in art is the concentrated study of the “I” depths which caused special forms of individualism to life. The complex mechanism of new genre-style formations is opened. The originality of the novels´ poetics reflects the individual author’s style and meets the genre requirements without any restrictions. This trend found its artistic embodiment in the work of French writers of this period, M. Barres, J.-K. Huysmans, A. Gide.
