Analysis of "football" concept in modern English sport discourse

The article is devoted to analysis of lexis connected with the World’s most popular mass kind of sport – football. Concept “football” has long gone beyond the frames of exclusively sport discourse to embrace a huge sphere of people activity, including social-economic, social-political, financial, as well as social-philosophical, historical, psycho-pedagogical and medical biological issues. The article deals with the notions of “concept” and “discourse”. Various definitions and views on the latter in linguistics are stated. The author emphasizes analysis of sport discourse and all subdiscourses within the framework of football concept (those of journalists, coaches, sport commentators, sportsmen and football fans), with lexical-semantic and conceptual features of football concept being illustrated.
