Metaphor, metonymy, and other neologisms in the French media in the postcovid period

Matyushenko M.   (Teacher, Russian Foreign Trade Academy)

The post-Covid period is characterized not only by various transformations in the life of society, which have forever remained due to events occurring under the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic (distance education, "remote" professions, ways and methods of coexistence and organization of working and social spaces, hygiene, etc.), but also lexical collisions. Namely, a new type of virus, methods of combating it and its spread, as well as ways of co-existence with the infection, determined the appearance of many neologisms, metaphors and metonymies that have found their application in the media. Despite the decline in the incidence of coronavirus, the media continue to publish articles about post-ovoid problems. However, the competitive agonality of publications and the attempt of journalists to "diversify" the material on these issues, which all publications have been full of daily for three years, led to the use of metaphors, metonymy and neologisms. The publications analyzed in this article, used in French news content, are taken from the materials of such popular and authoritative publications as: ‘Le Figaro’, ‘Le Monde’, ‘Nice-Matin’, ‘Les Échos’, ‘Yahoo Life Francé’, ‘Le Point’, etc., published in 2020 – in 2022.

Keywords:metaphor, metonymy, neologism, press, post-ovoid period, mass media, newspaper, French publications, Covid-19.
