Conversion in the English language: linguopragmatic status and modern specifics

This article is devoted to the analysis of the linguopragmatic status of conversion in the English language, as well as to the study of modern features of this phenomenon. Conversion is considered as a typological property of the English language and as a special way of conveying expressiveness. Exploring the nominative capacities and linguocreative potential of converted units, the author identifies the pragmatic factors of their wide usage. The words formed by conversion reflect the tendency to language compression, to extraordinary word usage and novelty of speech expression.
