The article presents a comparative analysis of the lexemes that constitute the semantic field “smell” in French, Italian and Spanish. The material of the study was nouns with the meaning “smell” fr. odeur, it. odore, es. olor; fr. parfum, it. profumo, es. perfume; fr. arôme, it. aroma, es. aroma, etc., as well as verbs with the meaning “smell” (transitive verb), “smell” (intransitive verb), selected from lexicographic sources. The scientific novelty of the present research lies in the fact that it deals with lexemes with a common semantic feature in three closely related Romance languages. As a result of the study the following conclusions are made. Among the considered lexical units with the meaning “smell” there are those that are cognates and almost completely coincide in semantics, and those that do not have equivalents in the considered closely related languages while having a narrower semantic volume.
