The purpose of this article is to reconstruct the image of an ideal monarch in the linguistic consciousness of a native Ancient Russian speaker of the XI–XIII centuries. The selected texts of the Old Russian literature of this period are used as the material for the study. The following key characteristics of the studied image are highlighted: honest and glorious, kind, merciful, brave, generous. In earlier texts, love for the squad is noted as an important feature of the prince, in later texts – "fear of God", following the commandments, diligence and mercy. The latter is due to the widespread and cultural rooting of Christianity in Russia. The diachronic section traces the evolution of the image of the ideal monarch from a commander to a sacred figure, compared with the father and the mother, equated with revered biblical kings and Christian saints.
Keywords:the concept of power, ancient Russian literature, the image of the prince, the concept in diachronic consideration.
