The article contains the results of a discussion aimed at establishing the features of the use and translation from English into Russian of the English article in the context of a scientific and technical text. It has been established that within this genre, both the indefinite and the definite article of the English language can contribute to the emphasis of scientific and technical knowledge, which should be taken into account when translating from English into Russian. The translation techniques used to convey additional meanings of the original text, broadcast with the help of articles, included the replacement of a part of speech, lexical omission or addition.
