LEXICAL AND COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF FICTION TEXT (ON THE EXAMPLE OF O. HENRY’S NOVELLA “THE RATHSKELLER AND THE ROSE” IN ENGLISH AND RUSSIAN)

The article is devoted to the study of O. Henry’s novella text “The Rathskeller and the Rose” in English and Russian. The purpose of the work is to study the lexical organization of the text of the selected material and to find differences and similarities when comparing the original version of the work in English with the translated version in Russian. The distribution of all lexical units (1682 words) into parts of speech was performed to understand the structural organization of the text. Using the example of the consideration of adjectives in the translated Russian version made by a professional translator, the authors of this article noted a significant modification of some constructions, not only distinguishable from the original words used by O. Henry, but also more interesting and diverse than technical translation using the means of an Internet translator.
