The article examines the specifics of the actions of the authorities to neutralize the protest actions of prisoners held in one of the special labor camps - Gorlage (Norilsk) in May-June 1953. Archival documents and scientific works on the stated topic are analyzed. It is noted that the catalyst for these actions of prison-ers (usually referred to in the literature as the "Norilsk uprising") was the death of Stalin in 1953. The scale of this uprising of prisoners and their demands on the authorities were such that it was considered expedient to hold negotiations with the organizers of the uprising, for which The NKVD of the USSR arrived a special commission. This tactic allowed the authorities to neutralize the continua-tion of mass disobedience, thereby preventing more serious consequences. In the future, this tactic was not used.
