POLYSEMY OF THE VERB FAIRE AND ITS SUBSTITUTIONARY FUNCTIONS

Chervony Aleksandr Mikhailovich  (Doctor of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Taganrog Institute named after A.P. Chekov (a branch of) Rostov State University of Economics )

The article deals with the semantic analysis of the verb-noun constructions faire + N. The verb faire is the core structural element in many French verb-noun constructions. Faire is able to extend its semantic meaning, which leads to its generalised expression of an action. Functionally, the verb faire becomes a conjunction, while the accompanying substantive brings specificity to the meaning of the verb-noun construction. It is the substantive that, in many verb-noun constructions, finally establishes the meaning of collocation, i.e. it is the semantic core of it.

Keywords:verb-noun construction, function, semantic meaning, sentence structure, substantive style
