RELIGION IN THE WORLDVIEW VIEWS OF MAURICE BARRES

This article examines the significance of religion in the work of Maurice Barres. After the passage of the 1905 Law of Secession, the French religious heritage was under threat. Within the framework of this problem, both journalistic and artistic works of the French writer are involved. The multi-volume «Notebooks» and the treatise «The Great Sorrow of the Churches of France» testify to the active activity of the French writer against the destruction of churches of historical and artistic value for France. Catholicism as the embodiment of a firm discipline and spiritual culture found its artistic embodiment in the novels «Free Man» and «Inspired Hill». The priority position of Catholicism in the spiritual life of the French nation is revealed.
