HISTORIOGRAPHY AND PROSPECTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF MASS OPEN DISTANCE COURSES

The article considers the issue of the formation and development of mass open distance courses as innovations of the XXI century in professional education, while emphasizing that it is necessary to closely monitor that the introduction of mass open distance courses does not concern the fundamental, academic foundations of the educational space, but is an addition to traditional teaching methods. The author identifies three stages in the historiography of the issue under consideration. The strengths and disadvantages of such courses are revealed. The prospects for the development of mass open distance courses in Russian education and the world as a whole are determined. The article reveals the thesis that in reality mass open distance courses have significantly expanded the audience and the range of educational services that meet professional needs regarding online learning.
