AVAR KHANATE: INTEGRATION INTO THE DAGESTAN REGION

In the given article, the authors aim to analyze the process of integration of ethnocultures in the Caucasus into the Russian state on the example of the Avar Khanate, as well as the difficulties of creating a single administrative entity on the territory of Dagestan. The policy aimed at forming a mass of pro-Russian representatives of feudal circles in Dagestan society has been actively undertaken since the beginning of the nineteenth century. Of course, the largest and most politically significant fiefs in Dagestan, along with others, was the Avar Khanate which had a great influence on the political events taking place at the time under study and was generally associated with Russia, Iran and Turkey that sought to establish their dominance in Dagestan. The fact is that all appeals of the Avar khans to the tsarist authorities in the Caucasus or directly to the royal court were met with great eagerness and were not rejected, besides were encouraged by gifts and awards. The Khan's power, which had become an "alien element in the Russian state organism," from the very formation of the Dagestan region was considered as a means of maintaining "calm and order" in the newly conquered population and was put under the control of the Russian administration. The Avar Khanate has an ancient history, starting from Serir (originated in the VI century) and ending with the Avar Khanate and eventually the Avar district as part of the Russian Empire
