Resume: The article considers religious education as the basis for the formation of spiritual and moral values of students. The problem of the spiritual and moral development of the younger generation, the development of value categories among adolescents in a multicultural society and the transformation of social systems is one of the paramount today. In this regard, religious education is of great importance as an element in the system of secular education, which acts as a cementing basis and helps to consolidate and strengthen the internal foundations of young people. The perception of religion by a modern person is not reduced to blind faith in God, it is a crystallization of one's own moral experience and the experience of previous generations. Religion is of paramount importance for the system of modern education and becomes a source of development of spiritual values for the generation of the future
