The reform of Peter I in the field of taxation is one of the most interesting phenomena in the history of Russia. This reform is closely connected with the formation of the system of state control bodies in the Peter the Great era, which was expressed in the activities of the fiscal system. The tax policy of Emperor Peter led, in turn, to the birth of the position of "profiteers" – a group of officials thinking about how to replenish the treasury of the state. The authors of this article, based on historical documents, are trying to investigate the history of the formation of the position of a profiteer and the specifics of the work of this category of Peter’sofficials
