The article discusses the numerous facts of adding “meshcheryaks” and other categories of the population to the bashkir estate by orders of the Orenbursk military governor. The fact of the first use in the census of 1816 of the phrase "bashkir estate" deserves special attention. Among the new "bashkirs" "meshcheryaks" prevailed, which contributed to an even greater increase in the proportion of tatars in the bashkir estate
