The category of modality is considered one of the most controversial, but at the same time multifaceted categories and is of interest for research in various fields, such as music, psychology, linguistics, law, etc. In the works of many domestic and also foreign scientists, one can observe an interest in the nature of modality, the means and methods of its expression, as well as the peculiarities of their implementation in speech. It can be assumed that an ambiguous approach to the study of types of modality from the point of view of the anthropocentric paradigm causes interest in this category. Speaking about the category of modality in Spanish, it should be noted that this category can be expressed by multi-level means, which allows us to apply a functional-semantic approach to the analysis of this category, which involves the reduction of all means of expression of this category into a single system using a field approach, implying the definition of the core and periphery of the category under study. The traditional construction of grammar has deep foundations: it allows you to reveal the features of forms and values within each of the allocated subsystems. At the same time, the "level" description of the structure of the language is associated with certain limitations. The analysis of meanings is concentrated within individual grammatical or lexical units, classes and categories. In this regard, a comprehensive consideration of similar values expressed by different structural means becomes possible only when going beyond the basic type of description at individual levels.
