FEATURES OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE EGYPTIAN PRESS AT THE END OF THE XVIII – FIRST HALF OF THE XIX CENTURY

This article is devoted to processes of development of the Egyptian press at the end of the XVIII – first half of the XIX century. The proposed study presents the views of Russian and foreign scientists on the features of the origin of printed periodicals during the period of the French expedition and the reign of Muhammad Ali. The author analyzes the features of printed periodicals of the period under study, reveals the role of the ruling elite in their evolution and functioning. The article also reflects the controversial issues of the development of the Egyptian press at an early stage.
