this article is devoted to the state of domestic soda production by 1901. The main methods of production, its volume and significance are described. An objective relationship between the state of soda production and the level of development of the chemical industry of the national industry is presented. It is concluded that the study of the state of a separate advanced and knowledge-intensive industry operating in a market economy allows us to draw certain conclusions about the general level of development of industrial production in a particular country. In our work, we used universal methods of scientific knowledge, the most important principles of historical knowledge and special methods of historical research. This allowed a critical analysis of published and unpublished sources; adequately assess the state of sulfuric acid production by the beginning of the 20th century, identify similar signs of homogeneous processes, etc. All this led to the logical conclusion that soda production, as well as sulfuric acid production, together, in the industrial era, determined the level of development of the entire chemical industry, which, in turn, indicated the degree of industrialization of a particular country or a single territory.
