LEXICO-SEMANTIC GROUPS OF FRENCH REDUPLICATES

The article deals with the process of reduplication in French. It analyses the lexical units imitating the sound of natural and man made phenomena, as well as the sound of the animal world. The article presents a classification including the following types of reduplicates: zoonisms, ornonyms, phytonyms, somatisms, lexemes denoting food, clothing, accessories and sound, lexical units indefinitely denoting an object and a collapsed listing of something, as well as reduplicates expressing the lack of order. In most cases, French reduplicates are a means of emotional expression. Word reduplicates are used in different functional styles. They express both the properties and attributes of a person, as well as the surrounding objects of reality.
