In an article based on the material of late large-format texts by V.M. Shukshin, such as: "Kalina is red," "Energetic people," "Call me bright in the distance," "I came to give you will," the age characteristics of the writer's characters are considered to understand works of art in general. The age of heroes in the works of writers is a fundamentally significant characteristic. The work of V.M. Shukshin is no exception. If you carefully look at journalistic articles, letters, works of the last five years of the writer's life, then you can find a certain age range (from forty to forty-five years), which occurs many times in his works. The purpose of this article is to indicate the age characteristics of the literary heroes of the master of the word, to identify their features in the above-mentioned artistic texts, to characterize their functioning.
