The article formulates the general provisions resulting from the analysis of baby talk (nursery language) as a means of representing the category of diminutivity in Daghestan languages. Based on a comparative analysis of the actual material of the idioms of two newly written languages – the Agul language and its Burkikhan dialect, the Rutul language and its Muhrek dialect, baby-talk units with which adults communicate with children are characterized as means of implementing the semantics of diminutivity. The variety of lexical and semantic means of implementing the semantics of diminutivity in the studied languages is due to the need to fill the lack of morphological means of diminutivity. The high degree of implicitness of emotive concepts in Lezgian languages is compensated by the presence of a rich baby-talk vocabulary, units of which help a child to master the language due to phonetic simplicity and lack of inflection.
