CLASSIFICATION APPROACH TO THE STUDY OF VERBS (BASED ON M. TWAIN’S STORY “А DOG’S TALE”)

The article is devoted to the study of verbs in the texts of M. Twain’s story “A Dog’s Tale” and the Russian version, performed by translator N. Dekhtereva. The research of the selected material is carried out to compare both variants (the original in English and the translation in Russian). The examples of verbs highlighted in the text of the story are classified by types: perfect and imperfect and are presented in the work in the form of structured tables. Methods such as: 1) continuous sampling of vocabulary; 2) classification; 3) quantitative calculation were used in the work. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that verbs found in the text of the writer’s work in two languages are systematized for the first time. The authors of the article plan to use the obtained data in the process of creation of a thesaurus of M. Twain’s fiction.
