The article is based on folklore material collected by participants of various expeditions of the Folklore Department of the Tsadasa Institute of Language, Literature and Art of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It examines some aspects of the formation of the song repertoire of the Terek Cossacks and the Russian population of Dagestan and the song art of individual masters who have brought to us the remarkable preservation and artistic value of poetic works that are a source for folk art in our days.
