BASIC NAMES OF WIND IN THE ALTAI LANGUAGE

The article is devoted to the study of the basic names of wind in the Altai language. It was attempt to identify the national and cultural specificity of lexemes with the semantics ‘wind’ in the Altai language. The original Altai lexeme јel ‘wind’ is associated with the ancient Altai ideas about the wind as the spiritual master of mountains, as the earth and water, and also as an evil spirit, that brings misfortune and illness. However, at the present stage of development of the Altai language, the lexem јel is completely forced out from using by the Mongolian borrowing lexem salkyn ‘wind’.
