ORGANIZATION AND ACTIVITY OF THE DISTRICT COURT IN THE PROVINCES OF THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE

The article considers the organization of the District Court – one of the main links of the judicial system of the Russian Empire, in accordance with the judicial reform of 1864. A parallel is being drawn with the judicial reform currently being carried out in our country. The composition of District courts, the requirements for candidates, jurisdiction, as well as the process of appointing judges to the position are considered. The features of the judicial system of the Russian Empire of the pre-reform period are touched upon. As examples, archival cases illustrating the activities of the District Court in the Russian province are given.
