THE CAUCASIAN WAR: ON THE TERMINOLOGY, CHRONOLOGY AND NATURE OF THE CAUCASIAN WAR OF THE XIX CENTURY

The article attempts to consider the process of dissemination of individual terms, chronology, concepts, definitions related to the Caucasian War of the XIX century in the scientific and journalistic sphere and public consciousness. The analysis of a variety of common terminology allows a much better understanding of the historical causes and features of the complex process of integration of the mountain peoples of the North-Eastern Caucasus into the imperial state system. The traditional mountain culture, religious and mental specifics, the historical experience of the autochthonous peoples of the region and the imperial policy were forced to find compromises and a mutually acceptable format of coexistence, in which a diverse reference and reference apparatus was tested and practiced.
