The study aims to study the structural and semantic features of Ossetian oronyms and their translation correspondences. The object of this study is the ways of reflecting the motivation of onyms by means of translating languages. The structural types of oronyms and their translation correspondences are considered. The relevance of the study is due to the lack of systematization of the ways of transferring Ossetian onyms, the need to determine a unified approach to their translation. Structural, lexico-semantic and translational analysis of Ossetian oronyms confirms the importance of the linguocultural component in determining the strategy and methods of translation. As a result of the study, we have identified the following structural types of South Ossetian oronyms: 1) one-component; 2) two-component; 3) three-component. In turn, the two-component oronyms of both North and South Ossetia can be divided into two subgroups: 1) qualitative descriptor + appellative; 2) possessive descriptor + appellative. The results of a comparative analysis of North Ossetian oronyms point to the similitude case as the main way of their formation. In addition, a number of North Ossetian oronyms contain elements of the Turkic vocabulary. However, the presented results of the translation analysis show that the semantic motivation and internal form of both North and South Ossetian oronyms are not transferred to the translating languages, even in cases where the semantics of the component is obvious. Russian and English languages are transcription and transliteration. In a single case, a mixed method of translation is resorted to, combining: 1) the method of morphogrammatic adaptation 2) the method of explication. This oronym was translated into English using transcription, transliteration and explication.
