The system of English personal names and methods of their tranlation in Russian

The main subject of the article is the system of English personal names (also known as anthroponyms) in the aspect of theory and practice of translation. The language sources of the emergence of this system are under consideration as well as, the factors that influence its development. The analysis of some structural features of English proper names are also given. It has been established that the contemporary system of English personal names allows for a fairly wide variability. That fact is reflected in the basic methods of its translation that are listed and discussed here. As a result, it considers both transcription and transliteration as methods of highest importance.
