Perspectives of bilingual medical education

The purpose of the article is to study the specifics of the Russian educational system and its potential as a platform for the implementation of subject-language integrated learning and the development of bilingual medical education. Methods. The article uses the sociological method, the method of content analysis, the method of processing empirical data. Findings. The article gives analysis of the prospects and difficulties of organizing bilingual education in medical universities, the requirements for curriculum, educational materials and assessment tools. The features and conditions of teaching in English, the prospects for creating a bilingual educational base are considered, and the advantages of bilingual education are formulated. Conclusions. The subject-language integrated learning is marked out as the only effective way to develop general professional foreign language communicative competence at the university, and the ways of integration into the global cultural and educational space are outlined.
