The article examines the era of L.I. Brezhnev in Russian historiography and educational literature. The authors emphasize the consideration and comparison of concepts in historical science for a given era, pay attention to their advantages and disadvantages. The relevance of the research lies in the development of a concept that requires scientific objectivity in the study of an important historical period in the history of the Soviet state. It is concluded that a comparative analysis of the historiographical concepts of the era of Leonid Brezhnev cannot be interpreted unambiguously, it was characterized by many contradictions. The most objective historical concept is the modern pragmatic point of view of historians of the 21st century that the Brezhnev era is «the period of the highest development and flourishing of Soviet society», which is the basis for the Concept of teaching the History of Russia course in educational institutions.
