The article is devoted to the study of the role of description in the process of teaching monological speech. The article deals with the algorithm of teaching description in a foreign language in the secondary general education school of the Russian Federation. The aim of the work is to analyse the means of forming the skills of description at different stages of foreign language learning in the secondary school. The paper points out the importance of using visual supports when teaching description in a foreign language. The article emphasises the role of description as a basic foundation for teaching monological speech in a foreign language.
