The study is devoted to understanding the role of proverbs in the text of the famous article by Alexander Blok "Intelligentsia and Revolution," written during the creative rise of the author and touching upon acute questions about the need to accept the revolution, about the opposition of the bourgeoisie and the intelligentsia, about the place of the intelligentsia in the revolutionary restructuring of Russian life. In the light of the significance of the anniversary date – 145 years since the birth of the poet, publicist, philosopher – and the consideration of the text from anthropocentric positions, the study seems relevant and novel. Its goal is to highlight the contextual significance and ideological and aesthetic role in the article of proverbs – means of idiostyle of the language personality of Blok-publicist. The tasks included identifying the composition of proverbs, characterizing their stylistic load, individually understanding the meaning and refraction of the lessons of folk wisdom brought by them, when embodying the intentions of the journalistic text. Methods of targeted sampling of studied units, contextual-stylistic, analysis of semantics using these dictionaries, interpretation were used. The results showed that, like phraseological units of various types, proverbs participate in reflecting the category of the people of Blok journalism, reflect the author's critical position regarding the passivity of the intelligentsia, the behavior of the bourgeoisie, and indicate that A.A. Blok forms new idiostile attitudes for him. The practical significance of the study is associated with the confirmation of the importance of characterizing the means that reflect the evolution of the author's idiostyle, due to socially determined changes in pragmatic attitudes, artistic and aesthetic and other intentions.
