The myth of the total disenfranchisement and patriarchy of the Russian family often rests on oversimplified notions that emphasize the most extreme expressions of patriarchal norms, as codified in sources like the Domostroy, Russkaya Pravda, and certain legislative documents. Nevertheless, the reality was more complex and contradictory, encompassing social, cultural, and historical subtleties that shaped family dynamics. This research explores various sources that support the theory of the absolute powerlessness and patriarchy within the Russian family, while also offering examples drawn from historical records.
