The article discusses the content of work to form, develop and perfect essay writing activity of pupils carried out in a foreign language in the process of Russian State Exam preparation in secondary school. The criteria of building the activity model of essay writing are the structure and the component parts of the educational activity itself. Also, the specific character of acquisition of text-building actions in secondary school is taken into account.
