                        | | The question of existence of terminological homonymy within one terminological system still remains unanswered. Although very few papers devoted to terminology regard this phenomenon as possible, the analysis of doctor — patient communication in English showed that a number of homonymous terms are present in these dialogues. Such terms are created throughout the reduction of either the first or the second base morpheme of compound terms. As a results, these terms sound more informal and can be used to establish a contact with the patients. The meaning of homonymous terms becomes clear thanks to the context in which they are used.
