The article analyzes the 18th-century Russian dramaturgy as a social phenomenon using a detailed analysis of selected examples of plays. A detailed description of the theater as a social institution is given, and its significance is analyzed in pedagogical, educational, artistic, aesthetic and humanistic aspects. The article analyzes the position of theatrical art in the political system of the state. The article draws an analogy between the problems of Russian classical drama and modernity.
